GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS OF TEENAGERS ATTENDING A PARTY

1.  Parents should know where their teenagers will be.

-Obtain the address and phone number of the party giver.

-Let your teen know that you expect a phone call if the location of the party changes.

2.  Contact the parents of the party-giver to:

              -Verify the location.

-Make sure a parent will be present.

-Be certain that drugs or alcohol will not be permitted.

              -Offer assistance.

3.  Know how your teen will get to and from the party.

-If your teen is uncomfortable about the situation he/she is in, make it easy for him/her to leave the party.  Make sure if he/she cannot get in touch with you, he/she has the phone number of other parents he/she can contact.

-Discuss with your teen the possible situations in which he/she might need to make such a call.  Have an understanding that there will not be punishments or restrictions for a call letting you know that things are getting out of hand.

-Urge your teenagers NEVER to ride home with a driver who has been drinking.

4.  Teens should know what time they are expected to be home.  Be up to greet your teenager when he or she comes home from a party.

5.  If your teen stays overnight with a friend after a party, check with the parents of the friend to verify that:

-They want your teen to stay over.

              -They will be home.

-You both agree on hours and other basic house rules.

-Spontaneous “sleep-over” arrangements should always be confirmed with the host-parents.

6.  You and your teen may want to phone the party-giver the next day to express your thanks.
